US Squash Adopts PAR11 Scoring

US Squash Adopts PAR11

Our league uses international scoring to 9, do we need to change mid-season?
No immediate change is needed, both scoring systems are still sanctioned.  In fact, Seattle Squash will continue to use international scoring to 9 for the entire season.

US Squash Membership signup/renewal

If you signed up or renewed your US Squash membership this season and your membership status on the league website doesn't reflect this, please let us know. We are aware of some issues but we would like to know your experience in dealing with US Squash. Please email me at webmaster@seattlesquash.com or post a response on this blog if you have any unresolved issues.

Thanks,

Top 10 Reasons to Wear Eye Guards (+1)

1. Protect your eye sight.
2. Required by US Squash to participate in our sanctioned league.
3. Sets a good example for juniors and/or your own kids.
4. A detached retina injury can be very painful.
5. Blurry vision in one eye due to a scratched cornea is no fun.
6. Less guilt for your opponent who made an errant shot that struck you in the eye.
7. The #1 player in the world was not exempt from an eye injury.

8. A ball strike

9. Another ball strike

10. A serious eye injury will happen to a squash player this season and it will not be you or your opponent.
11. Blindness in one eye will end your squash career.

Recording Scores

If you are the winning captain, your duty is to Record the scores in the league website. Losing captain should Confirm those scores once they are recorded.

1. Go to the league website: http://www.ussquash.com/ssm/pages/leagues/season_information.asp?seasonid=66
2. Click Login at the top of of this page (if you are not already logged in).
3. Click on your division
4. Click on your team name
5. You should see Matches Played/Scheduled
6. Click on Record for the match (once the match has been recorded by the winning captain this will say Confirm)
7. Check the match date, record the scores
8. Enter the Points per the league rules - the website takes care of the matches won, so you do not need to enter these.

Team match winner gets 2 points
Bonus point - awarded if you showed up with 4 players and also did your share of refereeing

So these points should be 0 thru 3

9. Click Submit and you're done!

A few gotchas...

If you can't see Record or Confirm at step 6 then it's possible you will need to logoff/logon again until the system recognizes that you are a captain.

I've had some reports of Submit at step 9 displaying an error message - but the results were recorded anyhow.

Some teams haven't got their entire roster set up yet due to problems with the US Squash membership system. We're working on it. Meanwhile hold on to your results until we can get it sorted out.

We are the league guinea pigs for US Squash and they are actively helping us work through these problems, so hopefully we should get them fixed quickly. Please report any new issues to me.

Tues 7-Oct - league start

Tues 4-Nov - no league, election day!

Tues 25-Nov - no league, Thanksgiving

Also, the league fee will be increasing to $240 per team this year.

We are always looking for league sponsors, so if you know of anyone who would like to sponsor league this season please let me know.

More details on league to follow, this is just to give everyone a heads up on dates.

If you have any feedback or suggestions for league this year please feel free to send me email, or come along to our SSRA summer potluck coming up soon on Sun 7-Sept. (see below for further details). Hope to see you all there!

League and Potluck

It is time to start thinking about getting your teams organized for the Seattle City Squash League. The first league matches will kick off in early October. We will post more details here soon.

The SSRA is hosting a Summer Potluck at the Bellevue Downtown Park on September 7th between 2pm and 5pm. The address is 10201 NE 4th Street. The SSRA will provide some food and drink. Bring your favorite summertime dish and join the fun. We will discuss squash, league, juniors, and anything else you would like to bring up. I will set us some Speedminton courts for some friendly competition.

Game on,
Eric
